| Dragon Warrior IV Walkthrough v. 1.0 – Part II |
Dragon
Warrior IV | Part I |
| by zenithian |
|
|
|
| Dragon Warrior IV is divided into five chapters. Part two of this walkthrough will
cover the final chapter. |
|
|
| Chapter
5: The Chosen Ones |
|
| The hero has grown
up in a hidden mountain village, and has matured to the age of
seventeen. Now the peace that has prevailed for so long is about to
end . . . |
|
| Hometown (Level
1) |
|
| Visit with all the
villagers before taking lunch to your father, since you won't be able to
later. When you return to your house for lunch, the village is
attacked by Necrosaro. After the monsters leave, you should look for
a medical herb in the town cellar's jars. |
|
| Woodman's Shack
(Level 1) south of Hometown |
|
| The woodsman doesn't
like gloomy kids, but as you turn to leave, he feels sorry for you and
tells you to take the contents of the jars: Leather Armor, a medical
herb, and 50 gold. |
|
| Branca (Level 1)
south of the Woodman's Shack |
|
| Build up your level,
upgrade your equipment if you want, and then travel to Endor. |
|
| Endor (Level 3)
west of Branca |
|
| Find Nara next to
the house of healing, and have her tell you your fortune for 10
gold. She'll recognize you as the hero, and join you. Then,
when you visit the Casino, Mara will also join you. Build up levels,
and buy a broadsword for the hero in Bonmalmo. Now you are ready to
visit the lands east of Branca. |
|
| Desert Inn (Level
7) southeast of Branca |
|
| There is a lunch in
the treasure chest. Hector, owner of the wagon, once traveled the
world. He and his friend went to an eastern cave in search of the
greatest treasure. Only he returned, betrayed by his friend? |
|
| Cave of Betrayal
(Level 9) northeast of the Desert Inn |
|
| This cave doesn't
have any wandering monsters, only a couple of mini boss battles, where you
will only have the hero to fight with. The only treasure in the cave
is the Symbol of Faith, which can be found in a treasure chest in the
basement. |
| 1) Liclick (x2) |
HP: 43, 43 |
|
| 2) Vampire Bat (x2) |
HP: 25, 25 |
|
| Tricksy Urchin (x2) |
HP: 35, 35 |
|
| Return to the Desert
Inn, and speak with Hector. He will realize that true friendship is
the greatest treasure, and ask to join your group. Now that you have
the wagon, you can cross the desert to Aneaux. |
|
| Aneaux (Level 10)
southeast of the Desert Inn |
|
| This town has two
inns. One is 20 gold per night, the other, 40. You can find a
strength seed by searching the graveyard. |
|
| Konenber (Level
11) southwest of Aneaux |
|
| Once a thriving
port, Konenber's economy has suffered since monsters invaded the nearby
lighthouse. Taloon, who has been building a ship in Konenber, went
to the lighthouse to restore the favorable sailing conditions.
Before you leave for the lighthouse, you should search both boats in the
harbor/wharf for small medals. You should find two of them. |
|
| Great Lighthouse
(Level 12) east of Konenber |
|
| The monsters were
stronger than Taloon expected, so he asks you if you will extinguish the
evil fire for him. You'll need to find the Fire of Serenity to
replace the evil fire. |

Flamer |
| HP: 75 |
HP: 70 |
HP: 75 |
| Since the Flamers
emit fireballs, try to eliminate them first. Your group should have
an average level of 14 or 15, with most of your MP still unused.
After the battle, use the Fire of Serenity on the evil fire, and then
return to Konenber, where Taloon is waiting for you at the wharf.
Now that you have a ship, you can travel to almost anywhere in the world. |
|
| Mintos (Level 14)
across the sea, south of Konenber |
|
| When you visit the
inn, you'll find Brey and Cristo. The chancellor has fallen ill, and
Alena has left in search of the legendary Padequia root, known for its
healing properties. Brey will ask you to help Princess Alena, and if
you agree, he will join your group. Take Howden's quiz, and you will
obtain the treasure map, which also serves as a map of the world. |
|
| Shrine East of
Mintos (Level 14) |
|
| Search the back of
the shrine to find a small medal. |
|
| Soretta (Level
14) southeast of the Shrine East of Mintos |
|
| Though you came to
Soretta looking for the cure-all Padequia root, they've been extinct for
five years. The king says that if you can retrieve the Padequia seed
from the southern cave, the Padequia root could make a comeback. |

root. Return to the inn at Mintos, and use the Padequia root on
Cristo. After he recovers, Alena's party will join you. When
you leave, you will learn that Ragnar is in Keeleon, looking for the
hero. At this point, Hector leaves the party to study under Howden. |
|
| Keeleon (Level
16) west of Mintos; across the vast ocean |
|
| Since the attempted
coup by the Monbaraba Sisters, the castle has become virtually impregnable.
Healie will ask you to save Ragnar, who was captured by the guards.
If you obtain the magic key, you can enter the castle. Visit Kievs,
in the south, with Mara and Nara in your group. Through speaking
with the villagers, you'll learn that the magic key is hidden in Edgar's
secret laboratory in the cave west of Kievs. |
|
| Cave West of
Kievs (Level 17) |

| Search the empty
chest on the island in the third basement. Push the button, then go
downstairs. Obtain the small medal from the jars, and the magic key
from the chest. |
|
| Endor (Magic Key) |
| You can obtain a
strength seed and the Multi-Edge Sword from the secret armor shop in
Endor. Climb as high as you can in the castle, then jump out the
window. You'll land on top of the secret armor shop. Also, if
you visit the castle at night, you can find a Feather Hat, Pink Leotard,
and Small Medal in the Royal Bedroom. |
|
| Keeleon (Level
18) |
|
| When you go to
rescue Ragnar, its best to take the Hero, Alena, Cristo, and Mara.
Enter the castle's side door, and proceed to the secret door you found in
chapter four. You'll see Ragnar defeat his 'escort', and then he'll
ask you to help him defeat the evil inside the throne room. As you
enter the chamber, the guard on duty calls for reinforcements. While
Ragnar handles the guards, you take on the 'king': |
| Keeleon |
| HP:
? (about 250) |
| Mara's Blazemore
spell works well, and if Cristo can successfully chant Stopspell and
Surround, Keeleon should be a piece of cake. After Ragnar joins you,
visit the counsel in his chamber. He begs for mercy, then tells you
that Balzack is in Santeem. You should visit Aktemto and Seaside
Village before you reach Santeem. |
|
| Seaside Village
(Level 20) on an island north of Aktemto |
|
| This village
contains two important items: the stone of drought, located on the beach
near the inn, and a small medal in front of the village shrine, which can
only be found during the day. |
|
| Santeem (Level
21) northeast of Seaside Village |
|
| Monsters: |
| Curer |
| Minidemon |
| Mystic
Doll |
| Ouphnest |
| Phantom
Messenger |
| Rhinothrope |
| Savnuck |
| When you go to fight
Balzack, take the Hero, Alena, Mara, and either Cristo or Nara.
Mara's Blazemore once again proves invaluable; use the Hero and
Cristo/Nara to keep your HP high. With this strategy, Balzack proves
not to be invincible. |
| Balzack |
| HP:
? |
| You can get the
Flute of Uncovering, Magma Staff, and a strength seed from the castle's
treasury after Balzack's demise. Visit the nearby village of Surene,
and read the signpost behind Marone's tower. To learn more of
Zenithia, you should visit Stancia, in the northern sea. |
|
| Stancia (Level
22) north of Surene |
|
| There are two small
medals in Stancia. One is found in a jar on the second floor of a
house, the other is inside the castle in a drawer. The King of
Stancia is looking for someone to make him laugh. No one has been successful,
and you currently don't have who you need in your group either.
Speak with everyone in the castle before you leave. |
|
| Monbaraba (Level
22) south of Kievs |
|
| This is where Mara
became a famous dancer. Now, Panon is telling his jokes on the same
stage. Recruit Panon by speaking with him during the day in the
theater. Change the order of your group to have Panon in the front,
and return to Stancia. Panon should speak to the King of Stancia,
who will then place his faith, as well as the Zenithian Helm with
you. If you spoke with everyone in the castle, you will
already know your next destination. But first, you should
visit Izmit. |
|
| Izmit (Level 23)
east of Stancia (by boat) |
|
| After speaking with
the villagers, stay at the inn. You will see the first of two dreams
you can have here (the second one will take place at some point in the
future). When you use the Flute of Uncovering, it makes the same
sound as the flute you heard in your dream . . . |
|
| Burland (Level
23) |
|
| When you speak to
the king, he's glad that Ragnar has joined forces with the hero.
However, he informs you that his grandfather gave the Zenithian Shield to
the Queen of Gardenbur. Open the six chests in the castle treasury
before you leave: Agility Seed, Iron Helmet, Lifeforce Nuts, Strength
Seed, 160 Gold, 320 Gold. |
|
| Gardenbur (Level
23) east of Burland |
|
| Use the Magma Staff
to open a passage in the mountains. You will know the right spot
since you must travel up a mountain pass. Once you enter the castle,
you can find a small medal inside the jars of the castle kitchen.
The Fire Claw is hidden in a secret basement behind the stairs which lead
to the queen's throne room. There is an agility seed inside the
drawers of the queen's chambers. As you explore the castle, you will
eventually be accused of stealing the prophetess' Bronze Amulet.
Despite your claims of innocence, one of your group will need to remain
behind as a hostage, while the others search for the real thief. |

| Tyranosaur |
| Its a good idea to
make at least two trips to this cave, one to collect the treasure, the
other to take on the real thief: |
| Bakor |
| HP:
1000 |
| Bakor can build up
power, as well as cast the Snowstorm spell. Mara's Blazemore works
half the time. Use the Hero and either Cristo or Nara to keep HP
high. Ragnar or Alena should also be included in this fight.
The Queen of Gardenbur will give you the final key upon your return.
Use it to free your comrade, then obtain the Zenithian Shield from the
opposite basement. You can complete the following four items in any
order. |
|
| Branca (Final
Key) |
| In the treasury:
Mystic Acorns, Small Medal, 120 Gold |
|
| Haville (Final
Key) |
| In the jail's jars:
Two Small Medals |
|
| Lakanaba (Final
Key) |
| In the weapon shop's
basement: Chain Sickle, Ice Blade, Strength Seed |
|
| Konenber (Final
Key) |
| Upstairs of the inn:
Sword of Decimation |
|
| From Konenber, sail
east along the coast, past the Great Lighthouse. You will see a
small river which flows into the sea from the north. If you follow
it upstream, you'll come to Rosaville. If you continue along the
coast, you can reach the Castle of the King Who Collects Small Medals. |
|
| Castle of the
King Who Collects Small Medals (Level 24) |
|
| Continue sailing
north along the coast. When you need to start sailing west to follow
the shoreline, go west a little, the north. You should see a small
island with a shrine on it. When you speak with the king, he will
keep the small medals you have. A total of 32 may be found in the
game. |
|
| Rosaville (Level
25) |
|
| You will see the
tower from your dream in Izmit. Use the Flute of Uncovering to find
the hidden staircase. Its best to use the Hero, Ragnar, Alena, and
Taloon for this fight. Be sure to bring medical herbs! |
| Saroknight |
| HP:
800 |
| The Saroknight will
call Chillanodons for reinforcements, and use the Sphere of Silence to
contain your spells. After the Saroknight's defeat, Rosa will ask
you to stop Saro/Necrosaro. |

freely. Inside the jars of the kitchen, you can find a small
medal. Inside the back cellar is the Aeolus' Shield, a small medal,
and two Mimics. Speak to the monsters to learn of a secret meeting
upstairs. Speak with those in the meeting room, then wait behind the
tiger. Saro will appear, and proclaim that Esturk, Ruler of Evil, is
