| Dragon Warrior IV Walkthrough v. 1.0 – Part I |
Dragon Warrior IV | Part
II |
| by zenithian |
|
|
| Dragon Warrior IV is divided into five
chapters. Part one of this walkthrough will
cover the first four chapters. |
|
| Chapter
1: The Royal Soldiers |
|
| The opening shows the king of Burland instructing
his soldiers about the recent disappearance of children from the nearby
village of Izmit. As Ragnar,
one of the king’s soldiers, you set off for Izmit village. |
|
| Burland (Level 1) |
|
| You don’t need to buy anything yet, except for
a medical herb or two. You can get one for free by searching the drawers
in the castle. They may also be purchased at the item shop, which is
the store closest to Burland Castle. You’ll need to talk to Flora before
you leave for Izmit village. Her house is located in the southwest part of
town. She’ll tell you that
her husband, Alex, is missing. |
|
| Cave to Izmit (Level 3), northwest of Burland |
|
| You really should have no trouble getting through
this cave, as it is small and easy to get to the other side. |
| Monsters: |
Treasure Chests: |
|
Diverat |
Medical Herb |
|
Giant Worm |
40 Gold |
|
Healer |
|
|
Slime |
|
|
Stag Beetle |
|
|
| Izmit (Level 4), northeast of the Cave to
Izmit |
|
| It’s best to come here at night, so if your
character has good health and a few medical herbs, walk around outside
until night falls. Upon
entering the village, check the drawers in the bath at the inn to find a
medical herb. Then, you should visit the school playground, in the
western part of Izmit. You will see a child running around, when he
should be in bed. After talking to him, he’ll tell you that the man in
jail is named Alex, the same Alex who is Flora’s husband. Visit the
underground jail, next to the armor shop and talk to Alex before returning
to Burland to get Flora. |
|
| In Burland, Flora will ask you to take her to
Alex. She won’t help you in
battle, so as needed, get some medical herbs before your trip to Izmit. |
|
| When you return to the jail, Flora will help Alex
recover from his memory loss. You’ll then learn the location of the
secret playground, which is 4 steps east and 4 steps south of the village
signpost. If you were
wandering out in the forest east of Izmit before and never found the
playground, don’t worry. It cannot be entered until after Alex tells you
where it is. Before you go,
get some medical herbs and upgrade your weapon and armor. |
|
| Secret Playground (Level 5), 4 south and 4
east of the signpost east of Izmit |
|
| This is called “Bottom of an Old Well” in the
instructions that come with the game.
You will hear a voice telling you to “come this way”. If you
follow it, it will lead you to the Flying Shoes, the item you need to get
to the tower west of Izmit. Until you join forces with Healie, watch out
for Sizarmages. |
| Monsters: |
Treasure Chests: |
|
Demon Stump |
Medical Herb |
|
Healer |
600 Gold |
|
Lethal Gopher |
|
|
Sizarmage |
|
|
| Make certain that you get Healie to join you. You
will find him in the second basement, waiting in a corner. In order to
leave the well, listen for the voice that says “If you go that way
you’ll go back”. You should find it near the spot you landed upon
entering the well. Fall down
the hole, and go up the stairs. Search
the jars to find a medical herb and an agility seed. Return to Izmit and
upgrade your equipment; get some herbs before using the flying shoes to
get to the tower. |
|
| Loch Tower (Level 7), west of Izmit |
|
| This tower can be tough, but try to get to the
first floor where the Sword of Malice can be found. You start on the fourth floor. |
| Monsters: |
Treasure Chests: |
|
Ducksbill |
Luck Seed |
|
Giant Bantam |
Scale Shield (DP+7) |
|
Healer |
Strength Seed |
|
Lilypa |
Sword of Malice (AP+45) |
|
Ozwarg |
Wing of Wyvern |
|
Pixie |
640 Gold |
|
| Watch out for the Giant Bantams, which can put
you to sleep. There is a
healing spring in the basement, near the stairs which lead to the second
floor. In the second
basement, you’ll find the missing children, along with the monsters who
took them. You should be at
level 8 or 9 before fighting these fiends. |
|
| Saro’s Shadow |
Giant Eyeball |
|
| HP: 250 |
HP: 42 |
|
| They shouldn’t be to difficult to beat, but if
they kill Healie, and both of them are still alive, you’re in trouble.
Take the children back to Izmit, and return to Burland, where the
king bestows a gift of 3000 experience points!
Ragnar then leaves with Healie in search of the Hero who will
defeat the Ruler of Evil, who will soon resurrect. |
|
| Chapter
2: Princess Alena’s Adventure |
|
| Santeem (Level 1) |
|
| Princess Alena wants
to travel the world to test her strength, but her father won't permit
it. After the king finishes his discourse, you can explore the
castle. There is a bottle of Fairy Water in the Priest's room, and
Alena can find a Feather Hat by searching the drawers in her
bedroom. After speaking with everyone, you can escape the castle by
returning to Alena's room and kicking the wooden wall by searching
it. Keep jumping, and you'll eventually be able to leave the
castle. Before you get too far, Cristo and Brey meet up with you and
ask to accompany the princess on her journey. Accept their offer. |
|
| Surene (Level 1)
west of Santeem |
|
| There isn't much to
do in this town for now, except to use it as a base while you build Alena,
Cristo, and Brey's levels and upgrade their weapons and armor. When
you're ready, travel to the next village, Tempe. |
|
| Tempe (Level 4)
northeast of Surene/Santeem |
|
| As you speak with
the villagers, you'll discover that there is a monster who always takes
their young girls as a sacrifice. After you speak to the village
shaman (priest), you can enter a litter and be offered as a sacrifice (so
you can rid the village of the monster). This fight should be an
easy task, if you have raised your levels and bought some decent equipment: |
| Chameleon
Humanoid |
Rabidhound |
Rabidhound |
| HP:
40 |
HP:
23 |
HP: 23 |
|
| After you defeat the
monster, the item shop, which was closed, will reopen. If you have
enough gold, buy a boomerang before you leave. Exit the village by
traveling through the house of healing, bypassing the monster altar.
You can then travel to Frenor. |
|
| Frenor (Level 7)
northeast of Tempe |
|
| If you speak to the
villagers, they will tell you that a princess is visiting their
town. She is staying at the inn with her companions. Upon
entering the second floor of the inn, you'll notice that the princess is
being held by some mean looking individuals. She is also traveling
with an old man and a younger man who looks like a priest. The
kidnappers warn you not to follow them as they leave with May. If
you speak with the little boy in the village, he tells you that his dog
brought him a note. It says to bring the golden bracelet to
the village graveyard at night to get the princess back. The old man
above the graveyard says that the golden bracelet caused too many problems
among the villagers, so they hid it in a nearby cave. |
|
| Cave South of
Frenor (Level 8) |
|
| You don't need to
hurry to get the bracelet; the kidnappers want the bracelet, so they'll
wait for you to bring it to them. Make certain you bring many
medical herbs, or you'll need to revisit the cave to get all the treasure. |
| Monsters: |

|
|

|
|
|
Vampire Bat
|
|
|
| After you get the
Bracelet, return to Frenor, visiting the graveyard at night. The
kidnappers will keep asking you for the bracelet until you give it to
them. After they get what they want, they leave and May, the faux
princess, gives you the Thief's Key to show her gratitude. And a new
day begins . . . with a now open item shop (just like in Tempe). |
|
| The Bazaar (Level
10) southwest of the Cave South of Frenor (next to a small lake) |
|
| You can upgrade your
equipment here, but make certain you search the jars. They contain a
Strength Seed, and the Gum Pod, an item which appears to have no
importance in the game. While exploring the bazaar, a soldier will
run up to your group and ask you to return to Santeem. |
|
| Upon entering the
king's throne room, you will discover that Alena's father cannot
speak. If you speak to the chancellor, he says that Goz, an old man
who lives at the back of the castle, may know how to help the king.
Return to Princess Alena's room and 'jump' through the hole in the wall
again. Once you reach the ground floor, you should open the door to
Goz's room. He tells you to visit Marone, the poet (who now lives in
Surene). Before you go, search the drawers to find a Wing of Wyvern. |
|
| Marone will tell you
about Birdsong Nectar, which he bought at a bazaar (the same one you
visited). Return to the bazaar, and inquire at the item shop about
the nectar. You will then be told to visit the tower in the
west. If you haven't upgraded your equipment recently, do so now! |
|
| Birdsong Tower
(Level 11) west of The Bazaar |
|
| One good thing about
this tower is that there is an inn in the basement. It can be a
great place to build levels, and an easy place to get killed. It
helps if Brey has learned the Snowstorm spell. |
| Monsters: |
Treasure Chests:

Butterfly Dragon |
Birdsong Nectar |
|
Flythrope |

|
|
Poison Lizard
|
|
|
Pteranodon |
|
|
Razor Wind
|
|
|
Spectet
|
|
|
| When you reach the
top floor, the two elves will see you, make some comments, and
leave. Search the area where they were to find the Birdsong
Nectar. Return to Santeem and administer (use) the nectar to the
king. He will tell you of the terrible dream he had, and ultimately
agree to Alena's desire to test her strength. Return to Bazaar, and
travel east until you find the shrine which houses the travel door to
Endor. |
|
| Endor (Level 13)
south of the cave south of Frenor |
|
| Endor is currently
holding a tournament, and the king is looking for the strongest warrior in
the world. Speak to the king, and the princess, to gain permission
to enter Endor's tournament. If you search the castle, you will find
some Lifeforce Nuts in the castle basement. You can also visit the
Casino in the inn's basement. |
|
| The coliseum is
behind the castle. You will want to equip Alena with an Iron Claw
before she enters the tournament. Since Alena is the only one from
the group that will be able to fight, make certain you have raised her
level sufficiently, and give her as many medical herbs as she can have
(without sacrificing too much of her defensive power). Alena will
fight a total of five opponents, in the following order: |
| 1) Hun |
HP:
70 |
|
| 2) Roric |
HP:
90 |
(use medical herb(s) after this fight) |
| 3) Vivian |
HP:
90 |
(use
medical herb(s) after this fight) |
| 4) Sampson |
HP:
90 |
(use medical herb(s) after this fight)
|
| 5) Linguar |
HP:
? |
|
| Linguar will try to
confuse you by creating three false images of itself at the beginning of
each round of battle. The only way to injure it is to hit the real
one. After two or three 'real' hits, Linguar will stop sticking out
that tongue . . . |
| Return to Santeem,
making certain you leave Endor before attempting to return, as an evil
force will block your way (for now). You will discover a deserted
castle, and Brey and Cristo will make remarks as you try to find out what
happened. After exploring the castle, step outside to continue
Alena's adventure . . . |
|
| Chapter
3: Taloon, the Arms Merchant |
|
| Taloon dreams of
owning his own shop, and becoming the world's greatest arms
merchant. For now, he and his family live in Lakanaba, where Taloon
works for the weapon shop owner. |
|
| Lakanaba (Level
1) |
|
| Since Taloon starts
with only basic clothes for armor, and no weapons, its best to work at the
weapon shop for a couple of days to earn some spending money. Taloon
can also find a medical herb amongst the jars in his house. If you
speak with the innkeeper, he will tell Taloon about the iron safe, an item
which allows you to keep your gold if you should die in battle. When
you are ready, head north to the cave which contains the iron safe. |
|
| Cave North of
Lakanaba (Level 3) |
|
| The cave is not too
difficult, but bring a few herbs just to be safe. You'll need to
push a boulder into the room containing the iron safe in order to obtain
it. |
| Monsters: |
Treasure Chests: |

|
Giant Worm
|
|
|

|

Slime
|
|
|
Stag Beetle
|
|
|
| You'll need to have
a Wing of Wyvern for the next part of Taloon's journey. |
|
| Bonmalmo (Level
7) south of Lakanaba |
|
| Bypass Foxville (the
village just south of Lakanaba), and continue on to Bonmalmo. If you
speak to the king, he'll tell you that he wants to invade Endor, but the
bridge to cross the river is broken, and the architect da Gardi, is
missing. If you have extra armor, you can sell it for a huge profit
to an old man. Visit the castle jail, in the basement, and give the
Wing of Wyvern to Tom's son, who has been missing from Lakanaba for some
time. Return to Foxville, and find da Gardi, then spend the
night. Return to Lakanaba, speak with Tom, his son, and obtain
permission to borrow Tov, the dog. |
|
| Foxville (Level
7) south of Lakanaba, north of Bonmalmo |
|
| Follow Tov to the
master fox and speak with him. He'll give up, since he fears
Tov. Let him go, and obtain the Full Plate Armor he leaves
behind. da Gardi will then awake and return to Bonmalmo.
Follow him. |
|
| Back in Bonmalmo,
talk to the king, who says the bridge has been repaired. Then, visit
with the prince in his chambers, who asks you to meet him secretly at
night. When you speak with the prince at night, he asks you to
deliver a letter to the princess of Endor. |
|
| Endor (Level 9)
south of Bonmalmo |
|
| Things have slowed
down in Endor since Alena's adventure. The casino is now closed, and
the coliseum is empty. Take the Prince's Letter to Princess Mia of
Endor, and then speak to her father, the king. He will give you the
Royal Scroll to take to the King of Bonmalmo. Upon learning of
Prince Reed and Princess Mia's Romeo and Juliet relationship, he decides
not to invade Endor, since his son will be the future king of both
Bonmalmo and Endor. Return to Endor, and speak to the king, who
grants Taloon permission to open a shop in Endor. |
|
| Speak to the old
shopkeeper in the southwest corner of the city, and he will offer to sell
his shop to you for 35,000 gold. There is a cave nearby which looks
promising for one looking to increase their cash flow. Before you
leave, consider hiring either one or both of the following UCs: |
| 1) Strom |
Hireling Rate: 400 Gold for 5 days |
Found wandering around near the church |
| 2) Laurent |
Hireling
Rate: 600 Gold for 5 days |
Currently staying in one of the inn's rooms |
|
| Neither character
will carry anything for Taloon, so keep some free space for the treasure
you will obtain. Laurent knows the spells Firebal, Heal, and Sleep,
but he tends to waste his MP quickly. |
|
| Cave of the
Silver Statuette (Level 12) northeast of Endor |
|
| You will need to
flood the basement in order to obtain all the treasure. You will
want to make several trips to this cave to get it all. |

|

|

|
760 Gold |
|
| When you return to
Endor, you can sell the Silver Statuette to an old man in the large house
located in the northeastern part of the city. With the 25,000 he
gives you, you should have enough to buy the shop and send for your family
in Lakanaba. Taloon can buy items from any shop to add to his store.
Neta, Taloon's wife, will sell them at a marked up price. When
you visit with the King of Endor, he will ask you to deliver seven Broad
Swords and seven suits of Half Plate Armor to his castle. Take them
to the soldier standing next to the old man on the castle's first
floor. When the delivery order is filled, Taloon is paid 60,000
gold. Taloon should now visit the old man who lives in the cave
halfway between Endor and the Cave of the Silver Statuette. Agree to
fulfill his dream, and he'll hire workers to finish the tunnel.
Return to your shop, where Neta asks you to visit the recently reopened
casino. After spending some time there, visit Neta again, and she'll
tell you the tunnel is complete. |
|
| Tunnel between
Endor and Branca (Level 13) east of Endor, south of the Cave of the Silver
Statuette |
|
| Taloon can speak to
the travelers here, and when you are finished, exit the side leading to
Branca to finish this chapter. |
|
| Chapter
4: The Sisters of Monbaraba |
|
| Mara and Nara have
lived in Monbaraba since their father's death. Mara is a popular
dancer at the local performance hall, and Nara is a fortuneteller.
After Mara's dance sequence, Mara and Nara speak with the owner before
retiring for the day. |
|
| Monbaraba (Level
1) |
|
| Mara and Nara should
build up levels before venturing to far from Monbaraba. There is a
Medical Herb and Strength Seed hidden in the town. When they are at
or near level 3, they should return to Kievs, their hometown. |
|
| Kievs (Level 3)
north of Monbaraba |
|
| The innkeeper will
let Mara and Nara stay for free. Their father's home is located in
the northeast part of the village. Inside, you can find an empty
chest, and some Lifeforce Nuts. Try to upgrade your equipment before
visiting the nearby cave. |
|

|
| Haville (Level
11) north of Kievs |
|
| You can learn two
important things here. One, that Balzack is the name of the new King
of Keeleon, and the other is that the king's counsel hates loud
noise. A prisoner in the jail was put there for making an explosion
with gunpowder next to the counsel's chamber. |
|
| Keeleon (Level
11) south of Haville |
|
| As you explore this
castle, you will discover that there have been experiments to perfect the
secret of evolution. The counsel will run to the king's hidden
chamber if you can make a big noise next to his chamber. |
|
| Aktemto (Level
13) west of Haville |

healing spells and/or herbs to keep your HP high. Have Mara use the
Sphere of Silence to contain Balzack's spells, then Sap to lower his
defense. If you have the best weapons and armor from Haville, you
can beat Balzack at level 11. After his defeat, a new monster
appears to fight you: |
